Information On Varicose Veins Treatment Nyc

By Jaclyn Hurley

There exist many forms of varicose veins treatment nyc residents may consider. The condition however first needs to be tested and diagnosed by the doctor before treatment begins. One way of doing the testing is through a physical exam in which there is examination of the legs to check whether there is any swelling. Patients will also be required to describe any ache experienced in their legs. A more efficient way is the use of ultrasound to check for any changes in functioning of vales.

Treatment does not involve staying in hospital for long, for many people that is. Owing to the use of procedures that are less invasive, the condition is able to be treated on an outpatient basis. Self-care is among the first options to be considered. This will require that individuals exercise, avoid putting on tight clothing, try to lose some weight, elevate the legs and avoid standing for extended periods of time. These aim to reduce any pain and prevent worsening of the condition.

Wearing compression stockings is the first approach before other options are considered. These are usually worn for the entire day. Their main aim is to steadily squeeze veins and leg muscles so that blood is moved in a more efficient way. The brand and type of stocking will determine the level of compression.

Compression stockings can be purchased from medical stores or pharmacies. There is also the option of going for prescription-strength stockings. During purchase, it should be ensured that the stockings are well fitting as that is the only way they will be of help. A tape measure is used in measurement of the legs and the stockings to be used. The stocking of choice needs to be strong, not necessarily tight.

In instances when the individual fails to respond to self-care, use of stockings or when the condition is more severe, there are more serious treatment options which can be considered. One such option is sclerotherapy. In this, a solution is injected into the vein that scars and closes it. This is normally done for small and medium size veins. There are cases in which the injection would have to be done more than once, though this is rare. Anesthesia is not needed for this procedure.

Laser surgical procedures are used to close off smaller veins. Strong light beams are sent onto the vein which makes it to slowly fade before eventually disappearing. No needles or incisions are used. With catheter-assisted procedures, there is insertion of a catheter which is a thin tube into the enlarged vein then it is heated. As the catheter gets pulled out, the heat destroys and collapses the vein.

There is vein stripping in which a long vein is removed using small incisions. It is mainly done on an outpatient basis. Fortunately, removing the vein has no adverse effects on flow of blood. Two other procedures which can be used are ambulatory phlebectomy and endoscopic surgery.

Caution needs to be taken when it comes to advertisements claiming permanent or painless treatments. While these may be appealing, they may not live up to expectations or their claims. The doctor needs to be consulted before taking up any treatments.
