Beauty Refreshment Using a Chemical Peel

By Elen Hanszen

The older we get, the more that wrinkles and lines begin to appear and gain prominence, age spots can occur, and we would like to return to our younger, nicer looking skin. Many people can lose their self confidence once they start seeing the first signs of aging. A skin peel is a good solution for those who are having issues that are a result of their aging appearance.

Chemical skin peels are a simple and effective way to restore your skin's natural beauty. The prominence of wrinkles and lines on the face are less pronounced after a chemical peel. The outermost part of your skin sometimes has an accumulation of dead skin cells, and a skin peel will remove these, reducing wrinkles and making it appear brighter.

Freckles, age spots, and liver spots are reduced dramatically after a skin peel, this is a time tested process. Softer, smoother looking skin will result after a patient goes through the process of getting a chemical peel. Acne can be a serious issue for some people, so a professional chemical skin peel; inflammation will be reduced, and acne will be less prominent.

While something like a skin product can take weeks on end of constant usage to see results, a chemical peel is something that is over with in several sessions, or just a one time sitting. Many plastic surgery solutions are permanent and more invasive for the patient, and a peel is nowhere close to that level. Chemical peels are much more than subtle adjustments to skin moisture levels or promises to strengthen collagen like some over the counter creams offer.

Chemical peels are pretty self explanitory; it actually removes layers of skin to expose the underlying cells and causes new cells to grow. Because the re-grown skin is new it has a fresh, bright, tight appearance and fewer blemishes or wrinkles.

During the whole process and pre and post procedure, there is no need for pain management because a chemical peel does not cause pain to patients. It is usually recommended that a course of six peels is given one or two weeks apart, to get the best results from superficial chemical peels. The more superficial the peel, the less risk is attached to it. For a few days after a skin peel, the side effects are still noticeable. Although rare, hyperpigmentation has been known to be a side effect, and skin in some cases will appear to have a colour change. The capacity for skin to produce pigment is sometimes affected after a deeper skin peel.

In the week prior to a skin peel of any depth it's usually recommended that patients clean the skin regularly to reduce chance of infection and the use of moisturizer is recommended to promote even results and fast healing. Sunscreen is also another recommendation that physicians will usually give a patient before having a skin peel.
