Understanding Extreme Fitness And How It Can Work For You

By James Spann

Working out is crucial because it's a part of life and the body absolutely needs it. Not too long ago where work involved manual labor, an exercise routine actually fit right into one's work. This isn't so today, with the majority of the people in the workforce seated for a good part of their day. As such, they have to implement some kind of an exercise regime into their lives, and perhaps the best one of all is extreme fitness.

Most people already understand that it is the challenging workouts that provide the better benefits. In these cases, people maintain their fitness levels and can reach for weight loss goals better than any other way. However, it's important to do it within reason and progress to that point slowly. Extreme workouts for those who aren't already physically fit can actually lead to injuries, especially to the muscles.

CrossFit, is one fine example of building strength, cardio endurance and flexibility. It involves weight lifting, aerobic exercise, and gymnastics, among other high intensity varied functions. This program was developed in the United States and spreading like wildfire, with over 7000 affiliated gyms.

Another high-intensity interval training program is called the Tabata protocol. Created by Dr. Tabata, who used a team of researchers to study the impact of high intensity intermittent training. Subjects trained intensely for exactly 20 seconds and then were given a 10 second rest, and repeated for four minutes.

Over the course of six weeks, the subjects were tested and studied. The outcome of the study was fascinating, where the subjects showed great improvement in both oxygen consumption and anaerobic capacity. Furthermore, they compared this four minute workout being equal to or better than one hour of endurance workouts.

The benefits and harmful effects of extreme workouts have been carefully measured with regards to intense workouts. This is been proven, especially by the team in the Tabata regime. The only thing is that people should be careful not to over extend themselves if they aren't already fit. In such a case, it would be highly recommended for people to gradually reach these levels before engaging in more challenging workouts.

The medical community pushes people to become physically active because they understand the importance of exercise. Being healthy requires movement, and that will bring on a stronger immune system which can fight debilitating diseases. The results can be longevity and a higher quality of life.
