By Marcie Goodman

Collectors can find many sports cards for sale on line. One of today's best places to look is on eBay. This world wide on line auction is the perfect place to buy many items including that elusive card that is needed to complete a set or even a collection. However, it is important not to overpay. Over enthusiastic bidders have often regretted spending too much during the excitement of the auction.

Many different types of sports are represented in card form. The most popular are basketball, baseball, football, hockey and soccer. They are very easy to buy and are quite inexpensive when purchased new. It is the older packs that are often the most sought after and the ones that fetch the highest prices when they are become available.

The specialist card dealers are always on the lookout for a something valuable. The cards that were made before 1975 are the most valuable and when they appear on the market there is always someone waiting to buy them. Some particularly valuable ones are the rookie editions for the now famous players. Having a Derek Jeter or Peyton Manning early edition is always going to draw a lot of interest from collectors.

As they get older many people continue to collect, trade, buy and sell cards. The advent of the internet has really changed the face of trading. Many people use eBay to advertise what they have for sale. Bidding starts and collectors from all over the country can bid. The last few minuets before bidding ends are usually the most exciting. Prices can suddenly begin to climb and it can be quite surprising how much a rare card can go for.

Craigslist is also an excellent place to supplement or even start a collection. Many fathers love to introduce their sons to the world of sport by collecting and trading cards. They often spend hours together looking on line for that special card they need to complete a set. After hours of searching it is a great moment when they finally find that really important one.

Some collectors are particularly interested in the minor league teams. They can often find up and coming playings who then go on to become famous in the major leagues. Having some of the best sports stars in the country as rookie players in their first professional season is very exciting. It is these cards that typically fetch the highest prices when they come up for sale or auction.

There are some important pieces of information to keep in mind before spending money on a card. During the late 1980's and early 90's many cards were over produced. This means that there is no shortage of them and they are really not worth much. A card that predates this period is much more likely to be valuable. In fact, a mint condition card from the 1960's or early 70's can now command quite a high price depending on the player.

A card collection is both fun and entertaining. Many fathers still collect with their young sons and love to compare notes on their latest pack. Finding sports cards for sale is easy and many local newsagent still sell packs at very reasonable prices.
