Vitamin B12 for Weight Loss

By Anne Hastings Fennell

It has been agreed for ages that vitamin B12 enhances necessary functions in the body involving monitoring and maintenance. This vitamin is of the water soluble variety, and is crucial for higher brain and nervous system function, and blood formation. Eight B vitamins are naturally found inside the human body, including of course, B12. This is also utilized in the process of forming energy, and helps to create the necessary genetic material found in cells, called DNA. This vitamin is used in many of the usual lotions and creams that are intended for anti-ageing, B12 is replaced since having a depleted amount of it makes skin look older. There are many alternatives to getting your B12, either the pure topical form, as part of anti-aging creams, or by injection.

A surprising discovery, however, has also linked Vitamin B12 and weight loss.

Vitamin B12 does not cause weight loss. However, the vitamin is able to help you reach your weight loss goals by improving your metabolism. One of its main roles is to metabolize fats and proteins. Once it does so, your body will receive enough energy to perform more physical activities, which will then help you lose weight. Another connection between Vitamin B12 and weight loss is that the vitamin helps your body from gaining weight quickly. Studies have shown that those who are deficient in Vitamin B12 are more likely to be obese compared to those who don't, as the latter group have more energy.

Another advantage of injectable B12 is that stress levels are reported to be reduced. The benefits for those taking B12 that are out of shape, are much higher than what they do for a person who is already in an optimal physical form. Injectable B12 could be the answer if having a lack of energy is an issue for you, as it can increase this dramatically.

While you can experience the effects of Vitamin B12 and reducing weight by adding more food rich in the vitamin in your diet, you will need a lot of this vitamin to experience this effect. Injections of Vitamin B12 are much more effective in nutrient absorption in contrast to taking pills, and for this reason it is a popular way to boost metabolism. The injections are usually administered on a bi-weekly or a monthly basis as part of the Vitamin B12 and weight loss plan, however, this can change depending on the discussion between the patient and the physician.

How Safe is it?

It's a good idea to consult with a doctor before you get this treatment so you can be sure that your health won't be put at risk because of the shots.

As with any type of injection, there are some potential side effects. Some of the effects reported in the past are diarrhea, headaches, some slight pain at the injection site, nausea, vomiting, or palpitations.

When it comes right down to it, most people experience a much higher level of energy from B12 injections. Because of this, people are able to get more physical easier and exercise more, and that will give people motivation to improve their diet as well. It also helps to fight stress and depression, symptoms which are sometimes associated with weight gain.
