Typically, people believe that the added weight on the belt will help you burn more fat because you workout harder. The truth is that the weight belt puts added stress on your abdominal and back muscles while you exercise. Weight training is one place where weight belts are very useful, especially when doing overhead presses and deadlifts. The same is true for weighted down vests or carrying weights while you walk or run.

There is also a basic order to working out. When you workout, the first thing you want to use your dumbbells because they are natural stabilizers for your body as you exercise. The muscles that dumbbells work tire easily, making them a prime candidate for your initial workout routine. The barbell is probably next up, and it will help you focus on heavy weights for particular muscle groups. Finally, move on to the machines, which work on the largest groups of muscles at one time. Sometimes the machine requires you to use muscles that you already used to some degree with the dumbbells, but this is not a large problem.
