A Home Remedy For Eczema May Be The Answer

By Cherry Mercer

Anyone suffering from eczema knows that it is not a pleasant experience. The dry, inflamed patches of skin, also known as dermatitis, are thought to be caused by a genetic defect affecting the skin. While it may be impossible to completely cure the disorder, evidence suggests that there is more than one home remedy for eczema that can help one avoid outbreaks and/or manage the severity of the symptoms.

Since outbreaks are often caused by foods or environmental triggers, one may wish to start their quest for home treatment by visiting their doctor for a standard allergy test to pinpoint their individual triggers. Many triggers for the disorder are found in the food one consumes and changing the diet can be very beneficial. Avoiding sugar, artificial sweeteners, and processed foods may help reduce the frequency and severity of outbreaks. Other known triggers should be avoided as well.

When creating a more healthful diet, it is always essential to include nutrient rich options one may have over looked in the past. Adding food that is high in Omega-3 is highly recommended: such foods are avocado, fresh salmon and tuna, and a variety of raw nuts and seeds. Probiotics can also be beneficial and are easily obtained through the consumption of cultured milk products. Beyond food, one should seek to create a healthy body by adding activities and habits that will aid the entire body.

A high stress lifestyle is hard on anyone, but to an eczema suffer it is even more detrimental than usual. Stress is a known trigger for outbreaks and special care should be taken to eliminate unnecessary stressors. To assist the body in dealing with the stress that is unavoidable, one should start exercising moderately on a daily basis. Insuring that one gets plenty of sleep and remains well hydrated is also essential to ones overall health.

Keeping the skin clean and dry also goes a long way to preventing outbreaks. Sweat is known to cause irritation in individuals with dermatitis and should not be allowed to sit on the skin. Yet, showering too often or in too high of temperatures can also cause problems. Bathing daily in lukewarm water should keep one sufficiently clean. After bathing, the skin should be gently dried with a soft towel and moisturized with a natural, hypo allergenic lotion.

Preventive remedies are not always enough. In the case that an outbreak does occur, one has several options for natural home remedies to help ease the discomfort. Virgin coconut oil that has been cold pressed, pure vitamin E oil, and Aloe Vera are beneficial products to help replenish moisture to the affected areas. Organic and non-synthetic options can be found at most health food stores and are highly recommended.

Easing the discomfort of a breakout goes a long way to healing the body of an eczema sufferer. Fortunately there are several home remedies that have been found to be highly effective. Skinned, fresh carrots can be boiled and mashed into a paste that is applied to the irritated area to reduce inflammation. Use cool, clean water to remove the paste after no more than a quarter of an hour. A cool bath that has been infused with either strong chamomile tea or milk and coconut oil can also be quite effective.

In spite of the discomfort associated with dermatitis, there are many remedies available for the prevention and management of outbreaks. After a careful search, one may find a home remedy for eczema that works for them.
